Ceramics
Reiko Kinoshita is a painter who completed her graduate studies at Musashino Art University. Rather than using brushes, she applies a fine mist of acrylic paint with a spray gun, working in dialogue with the folds and creases of paper and fabric. Inspired by analog photographic development, her practice explores changing images and the emergence and transformation of things through the question of whether the passage of time can be made into a painting.

Biography

Reiko Kinoshita completed her graduate studies in oil painting at Musashino Art University. Her paintings are made without brushes, using a spray gun to apply acrylic paint in a fine mist. She works with supports such as paper and fabric, responding to the irreversible textures of folds and creases marked into their surfaces. Inspired by the process of analog photographic development, this approach centers on the question: “Can the passage of changing time be made into a painting?” Her interest in phenomena such as sun exposure, photosensitivity, movement, and speed gives rise to “images not drawn by hand.” Through works that continue to change even after their making, and through attempts to approach forms of existence that resist being fully grasped, Kinoshita explores the emergence and transformation of things.
